An amazing move of God is sweeping around the world today. Millions are coming to Christ and tens of thousands of churches are being planted as disciples make disciples who make disciples.

If you look closely at what is taking place, you will see how incredible it is. What started in several out of the way places in the world is moving across boundaries and cultures and Jesus’ great commission to baptize and make obedient disciples of all nations looks more doable than ever.

If you want to learn more about the vision, principles, and practices of the Disciple Making Movement (DMM), what books should you read? Here are four books that serve as a great starting place.

Miraculous Movements: How Hundreds of Thousands of Muslims are Falling in Love with Jesus, by Jerry Trousdale, is a great introduction to DMM. Although its focus is primarily on what God is doing among Muslim background people in Africa, it outlines universal principles that apply anywhere and it is filled with amazing faith-building stories. Like the book of Acts, it tells what Jesus is continuing to do in the world today by the Holy Spirit. Earlier this month I ordered fifty copies to share with friends. It’s that good. This book is also available in Spanish and French.

Father Glorified: True Stories of God’s Power through Ordinary People, by Patrick Robertson and David Watson, combines a bunch of true, cool stories, and was written to accompany Miraculous Movements. It’s an exciting read that is incredibly faith-building. I had trouble putting it down and found myself picking it up in spare moments to find out what was going to happen next in the storyline.

Contagious Disciple-Making by David & Paul Watson, like Miraculous Movements and Father Glorified, was written by Cityteam staff members. David and Paul are both system thinkers and this book goes into the nitty-gritty of how you start and grow a thriving disciple-making movement.

Spent Matches, by Roy Moran, is the book to read if you want to apply DMM principles in North America. Roy is both a deep thinker and a passionate practitioner. You may not agree with everything in the book but you will come away much wiser, if you learn from Roy’s out-of-the-box thinking and his born-from-experience insights.

Another excellent book that will soon be released is Kingdom Unleashed: How Ordinary People Launch Disciple-Making Movements Around the World, by Jerry Trousdale and Glenn Sunshine. You can preorder it on Amazon.

These are my favorite recommendations. What DMM books would you suggest?
